The City of Portland Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) is the location from which City officials coordinate local response and recovery to an emergency.

Currently, the City's ECC is situated in outer southeast Portland at the Portland Communications Center. Concern has grown in recent years that the current ECC is inadequate because of its small size, split-level design separating ECC functions from one another, and lack of modern communications equipment.

Neighbors and business people agree – the graffiti has got to go. See how they’re taking on the daunting challenge of wiping clean their section of outer SE Portland of unsightly public nuisance markings … 

Identifying and mapping out more than 300 sites “tagged” with graffiti in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood in outer SE Portland was the first step volunteers took to combat visual blight in their part of town.

Now, every month, both the neighbors from their association and business people from the Midway Business Association get together to paint out graffiti on...

On a cool and drizzly morning, nearly 40 people showed up at SE 128th and the Springwater Corridor to plant approximately 1,700 wildflower starts on the last day of January.  Despite the weather, it was great fun, and because of the incredible turn out, the work went very fast.  The Neighborhood Association was joined by the Girl Scouts as well as students from David Douglas High School.  And, of course, a very special thank you to Portland Parks and Recreation whose herculean effort and support makes the restoration project...

Pelting rains greeted us on our way to the Foster Road/Lents Town Center Station of the new MAX Green Line for the opening ceremonies of the I205 Multi Use Path. Arriving at the station platform we found Tri-Met provided a large awning to keep those gathered for the event dry before the ceremonies, The Bike Gallery folks provided technical assistance for the ride, and Nadine Jones, The Outer Rim Bike Shop, provided moral support (and some cookies) for the riders.

The I-205 Multi Use Path had been closed for construction of the Green Line for over two years and everyone was anxious...

Of the twenty-five 2009 Spirit of Portland awardees on November 12, three recipients were from outer East Portland. This year’s evening event was held at the Newmark Theatre, downtown, on SW Broadway.  The Spirit of Portland Awards are organized by the Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI), which is overseen by Portland City Commissioner Amanda Fritz.  “The City [is improving] because we understand that individuals, coming together, build a better community,” Fritz began.
