Volunteer Opportunities
Reasons to Volunteer with us:
- Your efforts to improve your community will look great on a resume!
- The skills you currently posses will be strengthened and you'll have the opportunity to pick up new ones.
- You'll be able to see the lasting results of your efforts.
- You'll feel better about yourself and will meet people with similar interests.
Downfalls:
- You'll find yourself wishing there were more days in the week. There are so many great projects going on you may want to participate in all of them!
Time Commitments:
- Updating the website, posting news stories, emailing/calling members, distributing fliers, can all take less than 2 hours a month.
- Neighborhood clean-up, graffiti removal, attending meetings, can take up to 2 hours every other weekend.
- Chairing a committee or leading a neighborhood effort can take up to a couple hours a week.

Subcommittees and Boards:
Subcommittees may also be formed for specific items within a committee. For example, a foot patrol or bike patrol subcommittee might form within Public Safety, a litter patrol subcommittee might form within the Greening committee, and a farmer’s market subcommittee might form with Urban Agriculture.
City-wide boards and committees as well as other city driven positions may also be available. For example, there is an effort to establish a Tree Steward for each neighborhood which would be an excellent idea for PGNA. Additionally, members with a broader interest in all of East Portland may also participate in the East Portland Action Plan or East Portland coalition-wide committees such as the East Portland Parks Coalition. One may also be interested in serving as a representative of PGNA on the Foster Green project or on the Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Advisory Committee.
CURRENT PGNA VACANCIES ~ Note: that none of the 'non-elected' positions or committees will turn an interested community member away. Your decision to get involved will always be welcomed.
- Transportation Liaison & Committee Chair: This person would be tasked with reviewing pending plans (available through multiple websites and RSS feeds) and bringing the information to our monthly meetings to share with neighbors. Please contact Mark White for details.
- Interpreters/Translators: Wanted for documents and/or meetings. Could be one time only, or on going. Spanish and Russian translations are our biggest needs. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering for either of these positions.
- Membership and Outreach: is in need of volunteers to help spread the word about our busy and dynamic community group. If you can help deliver fliers within our neighborhood, please contact us today!
- Child Care Provider: Are you able to donate 3 hours a month for childcare during our monthly meetings? To be eligible one needs to meet certain state required criteria ~ Please contact us for more information if you're interested in applying.
- Transportation: Are you able to provide transportation for your neighbors to our meetings/events? We are setting up a ride sharing list for our neighbors. If you can help with this effort, please contact us for more information.
Please contact us for information on how to get involved, to volunteer, or to ask questions.
